What is Gematria?

Gematria (Greek: meaning “Geometry”) is a study, developed to calculate the values of individual words. Many detailed scientific reports claim that Gematria originated first as an Assyro-Babylonian-Greek system of code and numerology, adopted into the Jewish culture as well. Gematria signifies the numeric equivalents of letters, words, and phrases, in order to find hidden meanings of them.

Golden tablet bearing Assyrian king Sargon's inscription commemorating the creation of Dur-Šarruken. The first known use of Gematria - The wall of Khorsabad 16,283 cubits long to correspond with the numerical value of his name.

The technique of Gematria is based on the fact the letters signifying numbers also comprise words, and words sharing the same Gematria number can be interpreted as having special affinities, especially, if they are subjectively connected.

Plato (c.428-348 BCE), one of ancient Greece’s most important patrons of mathematics, claimed:

“Geometry existed before creation”.

In the 16th century, Hebrew Gematria had the following definition:

“Explanation of the sense of a word by substituting for it [by] another word, so that the numerical value of the letters constituting either word is identical”.

It is important to know that the word ‘Geometry’ contains the word element geō-[from the Greek gê, meaning "the earth” ], and the word-forming component “metry”, which I believe comes from the word “meteor” [mee-tee-er, -awr , in Greek metéōron –connected to ”Space Galaxy”].

In other words, my theory is that Gematria is a system of code and numerology that came to Earth from Space [created by God or whoever created the entire Universe]. Therefore, everything in life is “coded”, and every individual living on earth has his/her own coded life path. We call it “Life Destiny”.

I believe that our personal “Life Destiny” is coded in many different ways, and based on the circumstances surrounding us [and our actions in life], we choose which coded “Life Path” we can take. So, taking into account this fact, it is my belief that we live in a “Coded Matrix” [Life Matrix] where everything has a purpose, time, and place. Thus, by using the accurate Gematria, we could successfully decode the “Life Matrix”.

Numerology

Numerology, similar to Gematria, is a study of the numerical value of the letters in words, names and phrases. It is often associated with the astrology and the attempt to foretell future events, discover hidden knowledge by occult or supernatural means, and observe positions of celestial objects for divining information about human affairs.

The word “numerology” is derived from the words “numero” [a Latin word for ‘number', the ablative form of numerus -"number", with the ablative denotations of "by the number /with the number"], and “logo”. The “numero” symbol is a typographic abbreviation of the word “number(s)” indicating ordinal numeration, especially in names and titles. The word “logo” comes from Greek “λόγος logos-"word". Numerology’s power could help decode the hidden meanings in life, therefore, people created different type of calculators, as follows: Life path, Pi, digital root, Chaldean, etc.

Numbers of interest

Prime numbers

Prime Numbers are extremely important in Gematria. A prime number is a natural number greater than one-1 that has no positive divisors other than one-1 and itself. Euclid claims that there are an infinite number of prime numbers. In Gematria, prime numbers create special relationships in all events we analyze.

Triangular numbers

Other important numbers are triangular numbers (TN) or triangle numbers. TN count the objects that can form an equilateral triangle. The nth triangle number is the number of dots composing a triangle with n dots on a side, and is equal to the sum of the n natural numbers from 1 to n.

Fibonacci numbers

Another group of numbers we follow are the Fibonacci numbers (FN). FN commonly denoted Fn form a sequence, called the Fibonacci sequence, such that each number is the sum of the two preceding ones, starting from 0 and 1. Fibonacci numbers are strongly related to the golden ratio: The ratio of two consecutive Fibonacci numbers tends to the golden ratio as n increases. Fibonacci numbers are named after Italian mathematician Leonardo of Pisa, later known as Fibonacci. They appear to have first arisen as early as 200 BC!

Today’s scholars

Gematria has played an important role in history. Multiple original Hebrew and Greek documents may also be fairly read as sets of numbers. This intriguing fact comes about because, long ago, the ancient people adopted the practice of using the letters of their alphabets, as numerals. Therefore, each letter was associated with a fixed value, and a sequence of letters with the sum of their respective values, was used to create a word/phrase.
